report - two dinners in SF

Dear SF hounds,

Just returned from a quick business trip in SF, with meals planned after consulting you experts.

First dinner at A16 - it was delightful. Pizzas were very good (not quite as good as my beloved Franny's in Brooklyn, but excellent still) and service was quite attentive for such a bustling place. Nice wine list.

Second dinner at Gary Danko - we got in off the wait list at the last minute - how lucky! It was truly divine. I haven't had a meal like that in NYC in a LONG time. Everything was just perfect. I started with lobster, rock shrimp and corn risotto - heavenly! Then on to seared tuna - terrific. Then bison with little spaetzle - incredibly rich and delicious. Finished off with tastes of everything on the cheese tray (we all ordered the cheese). The sommelier helped us select two gorgeous California wines (a Peay pinot noir and a Maybach Materium, both small productions, doubt we'd see them in NY). And then a cable car ride back to our hotel. What more could a girl ask for?

Wish I could live in SF (and eat more meals that someone else is paying for!)!

  1. Thank you for sharing this, Treece, glad you had such a great time - and such good meals!

    1. You're right about the Peay wines. The majority of the wine is sold via mailing list and direct to restaurants (should be a few in NYC).
