Food and wine pairing dinners in Twin Cities

Hello everyone. We just did our first food/wine dinner at Luci Ancora and loved the idea. I have done them at home and stumbled across this on talk radio. The food was good, the pairings were mediocre, and we had a great time! We are looking for other restaurants in the Cities that do this. I found Ingredients in WBL, but that's all I can dig up. Help me out Chowhounds. Where's a great place to go that does a prix fix multi-course dinner with wine pairings.

La Belle Vie probably does the best job that I have had so far. Everything paired incredibly well. Alma used to have wine dinners every sunday night, but i havent seen them doing it, or at least listing it for a while. Went to one that featured Bonny Doon wines and it was a ton of fun. Everything was served family style to the tables. Really good. Though when we went to Alma last time and had wines paired, they brought us all the same wines even though we all had different dishes. Didnt really like that. THey also brought out all the wines at once which made the table quite full and cluttered. Seemed weird and maybe the server we had didnt know what to do.

hmm. sounds like we had a different experience at alma. no bonny doon at all, and for us the wines were paired with what each diner was eating in the tasting menu. i'd get a different wine than my dh if our dishes were different. we asked for and received smaller glasses so as not to get tipsy. all the wines were served in nice stemware, one at a time, as the tasting menu came out. the server said she enjoyed and took a lot of pride in the pairings, and i thought they were excellent.

the bonny doon dinner was one of their special wine dinners and that was about 2 years ago and was a lot of fun.

though last time we went to Alma it was as I described which I thought was weird since it was all brought at once and all the same wines for everyone. I am totally counting that experience as an exception to the otherwise fantastic service I have had at Alma.

Thank you all very much for the suggestions. Anne, Alma and Birchwood are just what we're looking for. The Corner Table event sounds perfect!! We have done La Belle Vie and must have hit an off night. The whole special event thing is just what we want.

Many restaurants have occasional wine dinners. I've noticed them at Restaurant Alma and the Birchwood Cafe, but haven't gone to any. Perhaps you could call your favorite places and see if they have anything on the schedule.

Doesn't La Belle Vie do a tasting menu with wine pairings? I haven't been there, but I recall seeing some reviews.

The Corner Table is having a Vino and Vinyl dinner on Sunday.

D'Amico Cucina does this as well. I've never tried it, but want to one day.

La Belle Vie does do wine pairings with their tasting menus. Last time I was there we ate in the Lounge instead of the main room. We had the lounge tasting menu, which was plenty with four courses and the wine pairings. I thought it was the best meal I had eaten in a long time. The last pairing was esp. good - an olive oil cake with bitter chocolate and olive oil ice cream with poached figs served with an oloroso sherry. You can go on line and look at the different tasting menus and pairings that they offer. The lounge tasting menu runs $40 with another $25 for the pairings. The service was wonderful - warm and friendly, but also very professional. Let us know what you find out at other places.

My wife (then fiance) and I enjoyed a great 4 course meal with good wine pairings at a small (and kinda noisy) Italian restaraunt - Osteria I Nonni (could be spelled wrong). It's just south of St. Paul, and also includes an Italian market and pasta bar on site.

Places link for Osteria I Nonni (in Lilydale) and Luci Ancora. Side note: The Italian market next door to I Nonni is Buon Giorno and is wonderful. I understand they have a little wine shop, too.
