There are numerous Thai restaurants around, but, the one that we have found that has the best food is Brookside Thai on Broad Street in Bloomfield. The food is just consistently delicious.

Here is alink to their website. The picture on their website is their original storefront restaurant. They have moved down a couple of stores and made a beautiful little restaurant and the food is just as good in the new location.

I second that. My friend introduced me to Brookside Thai recently. Went back the same week and craved the food since. Perhaps the best Thai I have tasted in this country so far! The family that runs it are very warm too.

That website is no longer active but the restaurant is wonderful! The correct address is 179 Cahill Cross Road, West Milford, NJ. Khon Thon is located in Bald Eagle Commons. We had lunch there today even though the restaurant is not open until 4 on Sundays. I didn't know that but the owner and main chef offered to make us lunch anyway. The food was very, very good. The ambience is quite good too.

I am not from Thailand, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE Thai food.
In Montclair, on Bloomfield Avenue:
1st choice: Thai Chef - great service, very nice atmosphere, exquisite presentation, delicious!
2nd choice: Tuptim - if they would only have better lighting in this restaurant. Food is great and reasonably priced.

I am not a Thai expert in any sense of the word, but I recently ate at Thai Essence in Nutley, on Franklin Ave. (I know there is a web site, but I can't seem to find it!) I thought the food was very delicious, service was excellent, and the Petit Cafe, (selling stuffed cupcakes) is next door.

There are two more you should check out:

Bangkok Kitchen on Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell and Panang on Bloomfield Avenue in Verona (actually this is Pan Asian with lots of Thai offerings). Both are family run, delicious, very inexpensive and BYOB.

May I suggest Kratiem on Palisade Ave in Englewood. The food is very good with well defined spice. You can get the food rather hot if you desire but the medium heat is very pleasant. Kratiem is also BYO and there is a good liquor store right up the street across from Baumgarts. Finally, it isn't overly expensive, definitely good value.

All in all...highly recommended.
