Fatburger, Los Angeles: Fat on the Wallet?
So Fatburger was one of my guilty pleasures and when I couldn't think of anything better last Thursday, I decided to visit the nearest location (1611 N. Vermont Ave.) and ordered the usual "Turkey Deal" with cheese. When I had to pay $10.37 (with tax), I was no longer a happy customer (the burger and fries were the usual - nothing spectacular, but nothing wrong either). I mean $10+ for a chain, for a basic "combo" meal is a little too much (some may differ saying its an "upscale" chain, but please visit the said location and you would never ever call it "upscale" on any parameter).
I haven't been to a Fatburger in the last six to eight months, but if my memory serves me right, I have never paid over $10 for a combo. Does anybody here know if they hiked their prices recently?

I havn't been in a while but I remember 60 centrs each for a slice of cheese and 90 cents for a tiny dollop of chilli so if you get a double that is $2.10 just for the cheese and chilli, that my friends is a rip off. I can afford it but resent being ripped off therefore I will never again go to Fatburger.

Do Fatburger prices ever stop going up? I seem to remember them going up pretty regularly at the Figueroa location when I was at SC in the early 2000s, and they were higher still when I'd drop by before a Clipper game. It seems like they were already pretty high (around $7.50) for a Fat Deal w/ cheese the first time I ever went and it seemed like they were higher every time I went back. Not being a regular customer, maybe I just noticed it because of my lack of exposure.
Anyway, I also think $10+ is a bit much to ask for it, though when I'm craving it I'll probably pay it anyway.

re: MeAndroo
That was about the time California raised the minimum wage to exceed the Federal limits. California will raise its rates to be higher than Federal next week and again in January. Guess what will happen to prices on everything...the businesses want to stay in business and make money. Only one way to do that.

re: Cathy
Cathy, I can understand the increase in minimum wage and taxes, however, I haven't felt such a change in several other restaurants (or chains) that I visit on a regular basis. Agreed, when the price changes from $7.49 to $7.99 there is a possibility of it going unnoticed, however, when it bumps from $7.49 to $8.99 or a $9.49 not only do you notice it, you also mind it. My point is I haven't noticed such an increase in other regional chains which conduct business in the same cities and with the same minimum wage.

re: losfelizhound
OK, I see what you are saying, losfeliz. The only thing can conclude after reading other stuff in this thread is that they are so full of themselves they are trying to see what price point they can hit until they see a drop off of customers. As long as they have a following and people willing to pay, they will keep the prices high.
You can vote with your feet, as I do sometmes, or order less, as I also do (smaller sandwich, no beverage, no extra toppings or cheese an small order of fries) so you can get that basic flavor you crave. I do think eventually you will be heard. There is a price point people are willing to pay. I just happen to have hit it a while ago.
