Not necessary but nice....

I really enjoy my new Oxo sink strainer...does the job & looks elegant doing it...

What do you find not necessary but nice in your kitchen?

  1. I have this rotary grater.
Everybody makes them. I use it for cheese. But last night I was looking at chocolate pudding and scone recipes and it occurred to me that this gadget could be used to shred chocolate and butter.

Also useful for shredding hard boiled eggs and potatoes!

    2. I have 2 truffle shavers. Neither has ever come near a truffle. They are nice for shaving chocolate and are adjustable. They were gifts. I most often reach for one of my Kuhn Rikon Y shaped veg peelers ro do the same job. I have a set of rosette and shell maker which are in my laundry room where i store extra cooking equipment. They have never been up in the kitchen. Ditto on the potato nest maker. I can't tell you how long i have had it. I am going to use it, really I am. Truly. Maybe this fall for one of my dining group dinners. I also have the cylindrical pain de mie tube for making bread rounds for canapes. It may come up to the kitchen once or twice every couple of years.

I also have a truffle shave w/ nary a touch to a truffle - but great for slivering garlic for vongole.

The Godfather has a scene of the Mafiosa-in-the-slammer shaving garlic with a razor blade as they make of my favorite movies, favorite scenes, favorite foods....

So you are saying that you're favorite movie is actually Goodfellas because that is where the scene is from, not GF.

              Ooopsie!...thanks for the heads

            2. re: fauchon

I think of this every time I slice razor thing garlic on my mandolin.

With Little Neck Clams selling for $1.25@ Vongole is not happening in my house. Seems like highway robbery. I don't know why this appeared below the Godfather post, I was replying to MMRuth

          2. I have the big broiler pan that came with my oven, and in addition I have a little one. It was a wedding gift; I registered for it because for just two people the other one is just too much. Furthermore, it can be totally immersed in the sink to soak, which the big one can't.

            1. I just got a springloaded "cookie" scoop...holds a heaping tablespoon of dough, just the correct amount for "right-size" cookies.
