can somebody please tell me what souplantation used to be called in los angeles? or maybe it was another, smaller chain, that was eventually bought out by them?
it's driving me crazy.

"I'll exchange my old black bean soup for that nice looking cream of broccoli."

How could anyone think that name would be good?

It wasn't. But the soup was.

It's always been Souplantation. It's called Sweet Tomatoes everywhere except SoCal.

It's OK when you have a bunch of kids you need to feed and you want to get some vegetables down them. Otherwise, pass.

I ate there twice and enjoyed it on a whole. Had coupons so it wasn't too $. Loved their French Onion soup and foccia bread (great dipped in). Premade salads I passed on, made my own. Would I drive out of my way or wait in line for it? No. But my friends and I enjoy it for lunch if we are in the area.

i think it's ok too, for what it is.
on occasion they will offer feta cheese and blue cheese; when they do, it is easy to grab a quick, servicable meal there before the movie.

AFAIK, Souplantation has always had that name, at least since 1993 or so when I first knew about them. They are known as Sweet Tomatoes in Texas and some other areas (maybe even N Cal).

There was a short-lived competitor called Fresh Choice, but they closed down almost all locations in So Cal and pretty much went bankrupt. Still surviving in N Cal.

Fresh choice was actually pretty good , much better than the Souplantation.

As far as I know, Souplantation was always called Souplantation in Los Angeles. There was another chain called the Soup Exchange that has pretty much disappeared.

In other cities, the Souplantation outlets are called Sweet Tomatoes. I think that was a separate chain that the Souplantation company acquired.
