Thanks again for all the suggestions. I do like beer, so I will probably check out Naja's, if only for a drink and a snack.

re: Diana
My husband eats alone quite a bit when I am out of town or working. He enjoys:
Blue Water Grill-he likes the oysters and fresh fish and the sourdough is good.
Dukes Sushi (Hermosa/Redondo adjacent) -really nice sushi chefs and local color at the sushi bar.
Chef Melba (Hermosa)-no bar-just beer and wine but very friendly to single diners and the food is very good in both our opinions.I second Cafe Boogaloo and HT Grill-pleasantly improved from our last visit and comfy bar atmosphere and really good sangria.

Go to the pier, find Naja's Place, which is all bar but has some good food. Great beer selection, too. It's a great place to have a nice drink, good bar food, and meet good people. Often there is live music on weekends.

Naja's is a great bar. If you're into good beer and want one of the best selections in LA, it' s the place. The owner popped open a 25 year old lambic for my husband's bachelor party. The food is bar food, beer, fries, onion rings, a good kebab plate, wings, a good hummous plate-but it's really good. The atmosphere is fun.
I like it.

Agreed - it is what it is... a bar with a great beer selection - both on tap and in bottles - GOOD food, alot of fun people, and oftentimes the bands are not just good but great, especially the ones that do alot of 70s-early 90s rock... no pretentious snobbery here! And the sea breeze is free...

cheze melange has a small bar and excellent food, henneseys ( burgers pub like fare), ht grill ( like henneseys a bit more upscale same owners) Bull penn ( great steaks, I personally like the burgers from steak trimmings and a beer at the bar there) all are in redondo beach and walking distance from each other..
