Finding (fresh) asian ingredients in South Eastern Wyoming

My wife and I have very recently moved to Laramie, Wyoming. I am an avid cook and love my spices. Many I can now find online but there are a few that I have been unable to find - right now I am looking for fresh turmeric root - and laksa leaves - anyone point me in the right direction? Online or Denver, Fort Collins, Boulder Co. resources are great - I just don't know my way around. Thanks!

  1. There's an international (Middle Eastern) grocery in a strip shopping center on South College Avenue, definitely south of downtown Fort Collins and I think south of the CSU campus. I wish I could remember the name, but it might just be something like International Market. The shopping center is on the west side of South College.

If you come farther south, Pacific Ocean Market (6600 West 120th Avenue, Broomfield) is probably your best bet. This enormous supermarket carries all manner of Asian ingredients (spices and so much more) and is a real Mecca for immigrants from various countries.

There is now a Penzey's in Arvada (NW of downtown Denver), and two independent spice specialists in Denver: Savory Spice Shop in the Platte River Valley, not far off I-25 and just north of the REI Flagship, and Colorado Mountain Spice Company in the Golden Triangle Museum District. You'll also fine a number of Asian grocers in Denver, mostly on South Federal and also along Alameda Blvd,

Whole Foods in Fort Collins and Boulder have good spice selections, but I'm not sure that they carry such exotica.

    1. Slightly off-topic: We found the Friday farmers market in downtown Laramie to be a very pleasant surprise when we stumbled upon it a couple weeks ago.

      1. Hello, I would like to inform you that my wife and I operate an asian grocery in Rawlins, WY. We are about 90 miles west of you. We carry a great selection spanning all of asia including India. Our selection includes frozen, dry, and canned foods, as well as asian drinks. Our store name is Mabuhay Oriental Market, we are located at 122 5th St., Rawlins, WY, 82301. Phone and fax is 307-324-5544. We also have a wide selection of asian furnishings and gifts that I KNOW are cheaper than you'll find in Denver!!!!! Our grocery selection is comparable to what you'll find in Denver and we also offer to find what you are looking for if we don't carry it.
