Healthy dining near Nokia Theatre-West 45 St

  • 3

Hi there,

This might be a ridiculous request, but I was wondering if there's anyplace near the Nokia Theatre where I can find dinner options that aren't fried or slathered in cheese.

I realize it's in the heart of the theatre district which means everything is touristy.
I haven't been here in years, so your recommendations are gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Ellen

  1. While you are bound to find tourists eating in many restaurants in the Theater District, every restaurant is *not* "touristy." And there are many places where you will find menus that have options other than fried foods and things laden with cheese. Here are two that I like:

West Bank Cafe, on 42nd St., b/t 9th & 10th Avs., serves excellent New American cuisine. Friendly, efficient service and very nice atmospherics.

Marseille, on the corner of 9th Av. & 44th St., is an attractive, bustling French/Mediterranean brasserie with very good food.

      Thanks, RGR.
Didn't mean to generalize. I was just going by what folks have told me about the area.
      Great recommendations.
I actually had been to the West Bank many years ago. Glad to know it's still there.

        Hey, Ellie,

If you haven't been to West Bank in a long time, you're in for a treat. To be honest, I had never eaten there because the food never had a reputation for being anything special. However, about two years ago, the owners brought in a new chef, hired well-known chef Bill Telepan as a consultant, and completely overhauled the menu. That was what enticed me to try it, and I've been very impressed by the food.

        Enjoy and Bon Appetit!
