Tabüle - great Middle Eastern

Made a discovery on the weekend that perhaps was a surprise only to us. Tabüle, a Lebanese joint on Yonge just north of Davisville, is superb.

We were looking for a light pre-movie dinner. The place was packed, but instead of making us wait, the owner/hostess gave us the last free table, a four-seater that she clearly had been saving for a bigger party.

We had the green salad (fresh, with a lovely lemony dressing), fried eggplant (lightly charred on the outside, creamy on the inside - yum!), and Warak enab (AKA dolmades - stuffed vine leaves). The vine leaves, served with labni (a garlicky dip) were fresh, light and creamy -- better than anything I've had on the Danforth. Finally, the kefta kebab: moist, full of flavour, with spit-roasted veggies and fantastic Lebanese rice, which has little strands of vermicelli.

Didn't have time for dessert, but we'll be back.

  1. Our favorite Middle Eastern resto. Try the garlic tomatoes, the babghanoush, the hummus, the fatush salad. The whole fish is outstanding too, crunchy outside, tender and moist inside.

Agreed. The fish is delish and the rice pilaf is addictive. My favourite app is the cauliflower. I could eat the entire plate of that with some of the rice and roll home a happy woman...

It's the crispy fried caramelized onions on top of the rice that make me swoon. I always ask for extra onions on the rice. Mmmmm...
