i'm in the east valley, but decided i wanted to make the long haul over to deer valley to see harry potter in imax projection. any notable lunch spots in that area? i'd prefer something less chain-y unless it's exceptionally good. thanks!

Mancini's at 56th and Bell has really good sandwiches: cheese steaks and pork or roast beef
    and a nice Italian menu.

Having worked and lived right next to the Deer Valley theater, I can tell you that most stuff in the immediate area are chains.

I think two places are fairly close - Mi Cocina Mi Pais (4221 W Bell Rd, Phoenix AZ)

Chanpen Thai Cuisine (13828 N 51st Ave Glendale AZ)

        Chanpen Thai
        13828 N 51st Ave, Glendale, AZ 85306

        Mi Comida Restaurante Latino
        4221 W Bell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85053

Just tried Chanpen for the first time a few days ago. It's fantastic. Great Thai food and friendly family service in an unassuming strip mall location. The papaya salad, one of my favorite dishes, is among the best I've had anywhere.

Chanpen is one of our favorite Thai places. I've only been to Mi Cocina Mi Pais once for lunch but I did enjoy it.

Loved Mi Cocina Mi Pais! Very unique, well-prepared food, friendly service, and good prices. That reminds me that I need to go back soon.

We tried MCMP a couple of years ago and were unimpressed. Has it gotten better? Did we just happen on a bad night? The people were very nice, but food OK-minus.
