China Food

May be Gourmet Chinese people would be a bit horrified, but my Canadian palate was quite pleased with China Food (416-421-3833). Fast and friendly delivery. Very generous servings. For $17.50 I got 1 chicken liver green peppers, 1 Beef Chow Mein and 2 sp. rolls. Enough to feed 3 people. I'll order again from them.

  1. Having grown up in Alberta, my first experience with Chinese food is the type often referred to as Canadian-Chinese. I eat often in what you call "gourmet" chinese restaurants and do enjoy them, however I still have craving for excellent thx so much for tips like this. Btw, I still have not found a local provider of the excellent Sweet & Sour spareribs that I remember from my youth...really sweet and sour (not just sweet) breading...quality (ie no ends) bite sized ribs...with a sprinkling of sesame seeds....mmmm

My wife is pure Chinese, but even she breaks down once or twice a month, and orders the family dinner from a "Canadian Chinese" restaurant here in Richmond Hill. Egg rolls, deep fried chicken wings, chicken fried rice, beef with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken balls, and cantonese chowmein. She had me swear not to tell her brothers!

The reaction of your wife's bros is quite common among the nouveau Chinese crowd. I think it's something like gourmet Italians viewing typical Cdn pizza or the French view of most N. American food. I like to think of Cdn-Chinese food as a specialty that has its own range of excellent to poor. Unfortunately, the excellent stuff is hard to find or more exactly the kind I like is hard to find only because the majority of establishments selling Cdn-Chinese do just fine with their clientele (much like Pizza-Pizza does with pizza). My Chinese friends are qlways giving me the business when I suggest going to try a new place out, but I'm determined to find the food I like (just not that lucky so far...).

I'm Chinese too and regularly order from Golden Hoy. Sometimes I just get a craving for what I call crappy chinese food like egg foo yung and chop suey. I don't consider it a whole lot different than eating, say McDonalds or Taco Bell.
