Has anyone seen the knife-sharpening truck in Park Slope recently? Thanks.

          The green truck ruins knives (he killed mine). The red truck (Del Re) saves them! I've finally remembered which is the good one because I saw that the red truck comes to Stinky Bklyn every Wednesday -- and they use him to sharpen their ham knives.

      yup. saw him this past saturday at around 2:30 crossing seventh avenue at 2nd.

          I gotta tell ya, I am very happy since I got myself a steel (or the rod thing, if it's not a steel, whatever THAT is). It makes all the difference in the world. Got my knives sharpened at the free event at Sur La Tabla, bought the steel, and my knives have stayed in mint condition ever since.

            For those of us with dull Henckels rattling around our drawers, can you explain a little about this event at Sur La Tabla? Thanks.

              they do free sharpening (for two knives, with subseqent knives being a dollar per inch -- and yes, they'll charge you for the shortest knife) twice a year. I don't know whether or not they sharpen the rest of the year, or for what price.
