Apparently FN is adding another Chef to the stable of four that they already have. Of course they turned it into one of the reality TV challenges.

Michael Ruhlman was asked to be a judge and he blogs about the initial info on the list of Chefs who are going to be on the list of eight.

This should be interesting. He promised that there are no drama just exceptional chefs doing what they do best. They don't care who is sleeping with who, they don't had fry cooks pretending to be chefs, they don't have idiots running around a crowded kitchen swinging a cleaver, and they don't have some cockney guy screaming at them.

Hmmm. I just saw one of the contestants (the guy in the mechanic's shirt) as a challenger on Iron Chef America. He got his ass handed to him by Morimoto. I mean, completely, utterly destroyed in the judging.

Symon and Bayless and others aren't used to it. It's a tough competition. I believe this coming Sunday, Ben Ford of Ford's Filling Station in Culver City will be the challenger.

Fair enough; I wasn't trying to question his ability as a chef, only his suitability as a possible Iron Chef. I would think that the strongest candidates would be ones who had previously defeated Iron Chefs as challengers.

I think it is all a matter of familiarity with the rules, the kitchen, and timing. I am sure they will have made sure he practiced the timing part long enough to get used to it.

Symon was on Anthony Bourdain's Cleveland No Reservations show, with a crazy, annoying laugh. They loved his porky-good food. I think the Iron Chefs are always at an advantage because they have practice at the one hour competition and so do their sous chefs.

I am looking forward to this TNICA show, hopefully we will see more about the preparation of the food than we get on Top Chef. Premier is Sunday 10/7/07.
