Ondal 2 ... crab lovers unite!
Ondal 2 is a Korean joint in seedy part of town on Washington, a bit south of Wilshire.
It's specialty? At least as far as I am concerned, it's the crab, or No. 2 on the menu.
As a first timer (which I was), get the No. 2, or the crab special stew. But in reality it is crab stew done 3 ways.
1. Crab stew, straight up.
2. Noodles with crab stew
3. Rice cooked in crab stew
The crab stew is very spicy, and comes in a bright red (that makes it look spicier than it actually is). Soup has large chunks of crab in it and sea squirts, which to me tastes like slimier sea cucumbers.
The second course of noodles reminded me of the hand-cut noodles from Heavy Noodling (RIP), but they're basically just clumps of dough ripped apart by hand. Worked well in soaking up the crab soup and flavor.
The last course of rice was good, but at this point between slurping up the crab soup and noodles, and the various banchan, my stomach was basically yelling "uncle". Doggy-bag to the rescue.
Give it a try, but only if you like crab.
Bibs provided, free of charge.

I've been very curious about Ondal 2, but alas, haven't made it there yet. I've noticed that the traffic patterns on that part of Washington Blvd in the evenings slow down quite a bit with all the cars trying to make turns into the parking lot. I'm glad to see more activity in my old 'hood. Welcome to my seedy neighborhood.

It's not as bad as you think.
You only live once ... so live a little!

While even the name "sea squirts" makes me a little nervous, I went with a group of hounds a few months ago and it was great!
