Horizons (Philly)

I just read through some older comments about Horizons and I'm getting really excited. My husband and I will be going there for the first time in two weeks for our first wedding anniversary (a day early, since they're closed on Sundays). I've been getting depressed at finding very little options on menus lately, so this will be a very welcome change. (My husband is omni, but loves seitan and other veg dishes.) I won't have to ask about ingredients, or to have something altered to a menu item, or have only one choice. I don't want to get my expectations too high and then be disappointed, but I hope it lives up to the reviews I've read.

Since this will be our first trip there, I'm not sure what to expect, but reviews are great. Any suggestions for making the most of the evening there?

  1. Make sure one of you orders the seitan 'wings', and save room for dessert. They make a fantastic cheesecake there, and there's no dairy in it!

    1. Definitely get the chilled cucumber-avocado soup. It's a pretty generic combo, but they pump it up there with cumin oil toasted pumpkin seeds and mint. I agree with Buckethead's rec. of the bbq seitan wings. I wouldn't order the pacific rim grilled tofu or the portobello trio. I didn't like either of them very much. And I think the only dessert I could eat there was the cheesecake.

I really enjoyed the paella there. Cheesecake was excellent.

I've never had the seitan there (I'm prejudiced against seitan) but the cheesecake is to die for -- better than almost any dairy cheesecake! But we've had other desserts there and liked them, too. We've only been there 3 times because the stairs are very hard for me -- but I voluntarily climbed the stairs the last time -- that's how good it is! And I'm not a vegetarian.

They had a chocolate mousse with sour cherries one time when I was there. I almost died it was so good!

        2. My carnivore husband, vegetarian daughter, and I have enjoyed everything we have ever had at Horizons. Since we live in Eastern Montgomery County we were patrons when the restaurant was in Willow Grove and haven't been to the place in Philly. You are in for a treat!
