Advice for Thessaloniki

yaddayadda Jul 21, 2007 08:54 AM

We will be in and out of the Thessaloniki area a few times this August, and were hoping to partake of good Northern Greece taste experiences. Any guidance would be very much appreciated! Please provide names and districts of your favourite eating establishments. Thanks in advance, CHers.

Even though there is great food in northern Greece, I can't direct you to any particular spot. It's been 6 years since I have been in Thessaloniki. A favorite item to try though are the fried mussels. Yum! To the best of my knowledge, it's a regional thing. They don't make them in other areas of Greece.

Thanks for the suggestion. I managed to hit a couple of touristy places that weren't half bad in retrospect. If I remember, I'll try to recall the names and get back to all.

If you ever make it to Edessa, try the food at the train station. There is a privately-owned restaurant off to the side (rightly called "The Train Station" or "O Stathmos" in greek), and their wares are quite good, especially the grilled items. The owner and staff are extremely good and friendly, a welcome plus if you know what I mean.
