don't laugh, please--but low fat vegan options in queens?

Well, I had to bite the vegan low fat bullet ala Dr. Fuhrman style to see if I can drop some weight that won't budge otherwise---have found quite a few interesting recipes on line and am working on some interesting creations daily..it's tough, to come up with tasty and non bland recipes while remaining dairy, meat or protein, and oil free...

So, need to have some going out options in Queens or LI that will work...so far, I can consider:

Veggie Castle in Richmond HIll,
Veggie Kebabs at any Turkish place will do
Demole salad at De Mole with hot sauces as dressing
Was thinking papaya salad at Srip?
Oneness Heart Fountain==what's good here?

Hopefully I can last it out for awhile, and then slowly go back to my evil ways in moderation..but you know what, I feel good with lots more energy..there's definitely something to this vegan thing...........

Challenges you in the kitchen, but I'm having fun with fruit reductions, etc...

Thanks for the help...

  1. Quantum Leap on Fresh Meadow Lane will feed you, but not particularly tastily/interestingly...plain, with decent ingredients....good non-dairy fruit concoctions, but they're not low-cal.

    I've had great, healthful and way more chowhound-friendly results with a high veg/low fat protein/lots of fish food plan, that allows good oil/real butter....just eliminates starchy veg, sugar and all other gluten/carb products...leaves so much room for allowable non home cooked meals......Good Luck w/ the vegan thang though.... Builds character :)))

      thanks...I plan on switching to what you describe after I drop the bulk of the weight I need to on the vegan thing..after reading the Eat to Live book, it's changed my perception of lean protein as being a healthy thing albeit, something that will result in weight loss. I'm looking for weight loss and eventual optimal health, which is something I have not considered as importantly as I should have in the past when looking to lose weight. I will check out Quantum leap, ...thanks again

        I have to second Wanda's experience, but in the meantime, I will suggest lentils (dahl) at Indian places. So far as I know, they contain very little oil and are mostly water and low-carb lentils.

    2. It's not a restaurant, but Linda's Organic Kitchen in Kew Gardens on Lefferts Boulevard has a great vegan deli. You can sit and eat at the counter or take it to go. She makes everything herself and pretty much most of the recipes/food she serves are her own creation. Everything is very tasty and very healthy. She's absolutely wonderful and very friendly. Plus, after you eat you can shop around in the store for some healthy foods to bring home as well. Also, if there's something that you're looking for in particular in the store but they don't have it, she will more than likely order it for you and have it there within the week.
