18th Birthday

TonyO Jul 20, 2007 12:42 PM

I will be bringing my son to Montreal for his birthday to enjoy a nice dinner and a "legal" cocktail or bottle of wine. I was thinking Gibby's ( I would have loved a Beef Wellington and a nice glass of Syrah on my 18th...............)but it may be a bit too much of an older setting. From what I have read, I'm thinking Decca 77, Buonna Note, or Globe (might be a bit too over the top for him). Any suggestions ??? Thanks to all.

Garde Manger. Important for googling. Here is a write-up from the Mirror: http://www.montrealmirror.com/2006/10... Assuming you are a local from your query, here is a write-up in French, from Voir: http://www.voir.ca/restos/chronique.a... (Hmm, sounds young and lively, but music too loud for me...).

Congratulations to your son and it is nice that his first "legal" drinking will be worship of the noble grape and not of the porcelain god...

Yeah, it seems important to teach responsible drinking and dining. I'm sure he will down plenty of Pabst with friends over the next few years (as most of us did) !

Garde Manger sounds great. Any hotel recs within walking distance ? (maybe the Intercontinental ?) Also, is Schwartz's within a reasonable distance (may need to hit it late night after checking out music/comedy. Thanks again.
