Long Beach Crawfish Festival

Has anyone been? It's coming up Aug. 4 and 5, and I was thinking of going, but I was wondering how the good the food is. Is it just standard fair/festival stuff, or are the crawfish (and sides) really something special?

Did you end up going this past weekend? I went on Sunday w/ some friends and it was a lot of good food and fun. We all got the 2.5-3lb crawfish feast for each person. They were big and all cooked live--delicious! I also had the best funnel cake I've ever had there. I'm not a huge "fair food" kind of person, but they has the crispiest, most perfect funnel cake there. There was also a lovely bbq chicken plate we got which was also very tasty and had a nice smoky flavor to it. I think there was just an overflux of good food there so we had to eat a lot of TUMs after we got home. :o

I went last year and the the food was really great. Not sure where the crawfish came from, but tasted much like the crawfish I had in New Orleans a few years back. Plus they have fantastic music :) Everyone I went with last year wants to go back again.

No China imports? Well, that's nice to know.. I thought most of the crawfish in the US comes from China nowadays..

Are they in season? I thought they're supposed to be abundant after hurricane season.

The usual crawfish season in Cajun country runs from early spring to early summer. But I suspect these are imported from Asia.

the gulf coast season is from around december to june - with the best being around april/may.

i'm not sure where the long beach ones are coming from - but the season is over in new orleans.

Gustaf Anders used to get them in August, so maybe it's in accordance with crawfish season in Sweden?
