So here's a question. Is it just me or does it seem like every restaurant in Memphis--chain, locally owned, and the "nice" restaurants included--is exceptionally loud? It seems to me no matter where I go, you end up practically yelling at the person across the table. It just seems most restaurant environments in Memphis are loud and rude. Or at least the diners are. It seems to feed on itself and get louder and louder making it an unpleasant experience.
Is this just a Memphis thing (as so many things are) or is it more universal and have I led a sheltered life?
I've noticed that Memphis restaurants are all pretty loud. There are some quiet restaurants in town ranging from Chez Phillipe (very expensive) to Daily Grill (moderate) to Pearl's Oyster House (before it gets too late). I think Memphis people are just a wild bunch and like things loud. New Orleans is very similar. Everywhere is loud.
