Bar exam in San Mateo next week -- Need Sushi!

I'm taking the bar exam in San Mateo next week, and I figure the only way I can survive the three days of torture is by having my favorite comfort food for dinner in the evenings, which is sushi.

I lived in the bay area prior to law school, but have lived in Chicago the past three years, and I'm not very familiar with San Mateo in general. I'll be staying at the Marriott Residence Inn and taking the exam at the San Mateo Expo Center.

Are there any sushi joints close by that you can recommend? I heard that hotaru was very good, is it easy to get to via cab or public transportation from the expo or the hotel? I'm not really looking for exquisite sushi, and I'll probably be taking it to go so atmosphere doesn't matter. Just a traditional place with fresh fish is fine. I'm more into nigiri rather than rolls, bonus if they have natto.

Thanks! Believe me when I say your help is GREATLY appreciated.

Sakai in Burlingame is excellent. Sushi Sams in San Mateo is great. Unfortunately you will either have to walk over to El Camino Real to get on the bus and go north OR call a taxi.

Just a small note: It's SakaE Sushi in Burlingame, and many people will agree it's one of the best sushi places in the Bay Area. Among the most priciest as well. Just get all the stuff on the white board to go, and even though natto isn't on the menu, you can always ask them for natto in whatever configuration you want.

You could grab CalTrain at the Hillsdale station and go to downtown San Mateo where Sushi Sam's and Hotaru are. Or one stop further to Burlingame and hit Sakae, lunch at Sakae recently cost me $60+ and it was not hard to do either so be prepared. It was excellent though!

        Good luck too.

Here's an old thread on this same topic with some general advice for eating strategies.

Just curious, this is the CA bar, right? I thought they always held it at the SSF conference center. If it has moved to San Mateo, that's great, closer to me when I take it in a couple of years. Good luck.

Bar exam is now at San Mateo Expo (as well as Fort Mason Center) for laptop computer users. I've been told that lunchtime is tough as there aren't any convenient eating places.
