After reading and hearing about Wimpy's for years I finally had one of their cheeseburgers today and it was very good - nice flavor, very moist, tender, down right yummy.

My question - I notice that shrimp burgers are on their menu. Anybody ever had them? I'm thinking along the lines of El's Drive Inn in Morehead City or Big Oak in Salter Path.

I'm interested to know the answer to this as well. I haven't been able to find anything comparable to Big Oak up here, but I haven't tried Wimpy's yet. If you or anyone else ends up sampling the shrimp burger there, please post your experience here...

Went to Wimpy's today for their shrimp burger. It is not like the shrimp burgers you find at El's or Big Oak - it is ground/chopped shrimp made into a patty. I had one with slaw and cocktail sauce - not bad but definitely not in the league of El's and Big Oak.

Sadly - I think I'll stick with their cheeseburgers.

Good to know. I tried the cheeseburger on Monday and really liked it, so I guess I'll be sticking to that as well.

Hog Heaven on Guess Road serves an El's/Big Oak style Shimp Burger. It's not as good as the ones from the Crystal Coast, but it'll do in a pinch if you have a craving.

They even have a Big Oak license plate displayed above their fountain drink machine.

It is a bit different from the ones at the beach but I really like the shrimp burger at Raleigh Times. In fact, I think it may be better than Big Oak's which is saying something as i grew up at the beach.
