Best BLT in SD -- Help, please.

I'm seeking the best BLT in the SD area....location not really a problem, as I'll drive just about anywhere for a good one. While I do think that the best BLT is generally one made at home in the heat of summer, sometimes I just can't be bothered.

BTW, when making one at home, I like to make the most decadent, pricey sandwich possible by getting all my veggies from Chino Farm, multi-grain bread from Bread and Cie, Nieman Ranch bacon, and goat cheese from Velissimo. And if you haven't tried one, a fried green tomato BLT is pretty freaking awesome as well.

But I digress...your suggestions for a superlative BLT would be most appreciated!

    To be honest, seeing what you put on your own at home I don't think you'll find a parallel. I would suggest, though, trying the bacon from Siesel's in Bay Park. They make it in-house and it's really good.

      Thanks for the bacon rec! I'll def. try it. And I agree that it's tough to find a BLT as good as the one I make (not to brag...), but the effort and expense are both considerable. I'd be glad to have one *almost as good as* my home version.

        Hodad's in OB makes a good one, though not in quite the same way. It's not really gourmet, and doesn't involve fancy produce. They use a really good bacon though, not sure what kind it is or where they get it, but it's very meaty.

        Linkery used to do a good one when they were open for lunch. Unfortunately they no longer serve lunch.

              My devotion to bacon is serious...my husband gifted me w/ a membership in the "bacon of the month club" a few years ago! Another delightful treatment of bacon -- broil it and a few minutes before it's really crispy, top w/ a mix of brown sugar and cayenne pepper. It's like a spicy bacon brittle. Oh yeah.

                We were having grilled chicken sandwiches with my sister one day and I asked her if she would like bacon on hers. She replied, "Of course! Bacon makes everything better".

                    A bacon chocolate bar? I dunno - I still can't quite get past the white chocolate one with olives - though I love the Barcelona, Naga and Black Pearl. If you're ever in Vegas, their shop in the Forum Shops mall is pretty cool, and their bon bons are fantastic.

                      I'm on the hunt for it right now! While I hate the bar w/ white choc and olives, the bacon bar sounds right on. Thanks for the heads up!

          Chez Nous in Scripps Ranch is my favorite sandwich shop the prices are reasonable, the food is good and has nice little touches, and it's close to my house. It sucks that they only take cash but I still go there since the owner has been a friend of the family for around 20 years.

            Americana Restaurant in Del Mar on 101 has a good BLT, made with smokehouse bacon, and they serve it on your choice of breads (all of which are good). They also put avocado and Russian dressing on it, but you can ask them not to if you like yours done the classic way.

              THE best I have ever had!!! was at the Stone Brewery in Escondido.. they are into the whole slow food movement.. The bacon was special.. the bread .. everything.. well worth checking that out...
