Wow, Sfoglia is really delicious

i know I am not shocking anyone with above statement, but i was blown away.

Went there last night and had one of the best meals i have had in a very long time.
Their Sfoglia chicken is so juicy and tender and the skin is perfectly crisp.

Wife had the steak pizzaole and that too was amazing.

very special little place

  1. I have eaten at Sfoglia over a dozen times. I find the food to be consistently excellent, and the staff to be warm and inviting.

I whole-heartedly agree that Sfoglia is a special place.

    1. Have to disagree on this one - went to Sfoglia for dinner in August 2007, had the following: Antipasti (just OK), Mussels (the clear winner - some of the best I've had in the city, and the sauce was excellent), Gnocchi (didn't work very well with the sauce) and Pappardelle (OK, but have had better). Prices are deceiving for the ambiance, and you can easily run up the bill. The communal tables, while a nice try, simply do not work well, as you are too close to your neighbor and the room is too small for this setup.

I went when they first opened and really liked it, then read so many disappointing things about it which, combined w/ the difficulty in getting a reservation, led me not to go back. However, we went two weeks ago (just before leaving on vacation which is why I've not posted about it) after seeing No Reservations and walked by it on our way home and decided to stop in. We got two seats at the bar and have a lovely meal. Trying to remember what we had ... the fried seafood - lovely, light, included pieces of lemon and was served with honey, which worked surprisingly well. We each had a pasta - I think mine was with an egg plant sauce - have to figure out how to recreate it at home. The bread was as delicious as I'd remembered it being - crispy wonderful crust with some salt and a beautiful in side. I'm blanking about my husband's meal now, but the dessert was also great - a caramel peach gelato. I'll definitely be popping in again to snag seats at the bar. I agree that the bill can run up easily.

Here's a full description of what we ate:

          seafood fritto misto, honey, pepperoncini
wild mussels, tomato, garlic, salami, fennel pollen
spaghetti, roasted eggplant puree, ricotta salata, basil
potato gnocchi, salsa di tartufo nero, pecorino romano - my husband said this dish just ok, nothing to rave about - don't remember why.
