There are a number of very recent posts on the UWS such as this one: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/420482

Once you perform a search and ask specific questions, I'm sure you'll get answers.

welcome to the neighborhood.....Try the new DEAN's on West 85th for GREAT square pan pizza in a beautiful "ballroom" setting. Also don't miss Celeste and Gennaro, two stellar Italian restaurants. Calle Ocho on Columbus for inventive pan-latin cuisine, Saigon Grill on Amsterdam; Good Enough to Eat on Amsterdam for breakfast...so many places (the UWS doesn't deserve the bad food rep it has)....

Chinese food is pretty terrible in every NYC neighborhood (including Chinatown)...

Actually, Noodle 88 on Columbus makes a mean orange tofu dish. Overall, I adore Saigon Grill on Amsterdam - strikes not withstanding - the food is incredible. Also, the Funky Diner just opened on Columbus, and dispite it's lame name and attempt at atmosphere, the menu is wonderfully varied and the food is very good.

This isn't on the west side, this chinese place on 86th and 3rd is awesome - I don't remember the name but it's right across the street from the movie theater - good leechi chicken

I went to Telepan for restaurant week last year and have been back several times for one particular dish - the carrot cake, its out of this world. Its on the higher end of restaurants, but still a quality local joint

I have always loved Arte Cafe for an inexpensive neighborhood Italian meal - on 73rd between Columbus and Amsterdam.

It's not cheap, but Isabella's is extremely good, right near the museum of natural history.

there are lots of good restaurants in that area.

Try Flor de Mayo, Amsterdam btw 83 and 84th

Also Dive bar, is a bar on amsterdam and 96th that has lots of good bar type food. Also not too many people know this, but on Fridays they have free mussels.

Charm Thai is on 95th and amsterdam I think, and is quite good.

Anyways, just within 10 blocks north or south, there are tons of great places.
