My husband and I are celebrating our 1 year anniversary. We have reservations at Philip Marie. I tried reserving the private room, but was unsuccessful. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if it's a good place for this special occasion. Setting? food?.
Also I'll take any other suggestions------ We are looking for a romantic setting with good wine and food (we love italian food). We are not picky in terms of price and location. Thanks

      Vice Versa

    2. We ate once at Philip Marie quite some time ago, and I was not impressed with the food. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend it for this special occasion.

It would be helpful to know what kind of setting you feel is romantic because opinions about that can differ. For example, I agree with Leah that Eleven Madison Park is a celebratory kind of place. Chef Daniel Humm's French-inspired cuisine is exquisite, the wine list is excellent, service is both cordial and professional, and the room is gorgeous! However, it is a huge, soaring space, so those who think romantic means small and intimate might not be happy there.

At L'Impero, new chef Michael White has taken over and has begun overhauling the menu. While I haven't been there since his arrival, he has an excellent reputation, and I feel confident his food will be delicious. The dining room has lovely, romantic ambiance, and there is also a small, charming, very romantic outdoor patio. If you're looking for Italian, this would be my pick.
