Denver recs near Coors
My brother and I are traveling to Denver for 3 nights in the beginning of August and I am looking for some good, affordable (we are both college students) places to eat. We are going to go to a Rockies game or two so places around Coors would be nice, and we are staying a couples of miles to the west on Speer Blvd so places around there would be good too. And we can always travel a little if there is something we absolutely need to try. Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks everyone for the help. In case there are anymore posts, my brother is only 20 so we probably won't be hitting up any bars while we are there. All the suggestions are greatly appreciated though!

You'll find that this area has one of the highest concentrations of microbreweries/pubs around. Actually, Colorado has one of the largest microbreweries per capita in the nation, I believe.
These restaurants welcome families, so it's not really a bar scene (although the brewery smell is sometimes strong), and your brother would certainly fit in no problem. They're like.. CB&Potts, Hops, Chili's, Bennigan's... bar and grill type places, but they brew their own beers. Also, the breweries usually have reasonable prices, as opposed to the more Chowhoundish places along Larimer and in LoDo which are usually a lot pricier. That's probably why there are so many brewery suggestions in this thread, since you asked for affordable good eats. Also, you mentioned you were college students, so these places match your demographic.
As far as these types of places in LoDo go, I like Wynkoop Brewery, Blake Street Tavern, Breckenridge Brewery... all family friendly and good food. I can't recommend Celtic Tavern, as they're one of the few places that allow smoking, and that doesn't sit well with me, but the food was good.

Luckylily beat me to it but I was also going to follow-up and say that most of the places mentioned in the thread don't check id at the door but only when you order a alcholic beverage. Some might start checking later in the night, but most are more restaurants then clubs or bars.
My guess is that Celtic, like a few other places, fall under the "cigar bar" exemption (which allows bars who sell a certain percentage of tabacco as part of their sales) to allow smoking. Sullivans Steakhouse, for example, also allows smoking in the bar. I believe the law is, or may, change in the future to limit that exemption.

It's not cheap for dinner, but if you are looking for an excellent appetizer, The Keg right next to Coors Field has awesome bacon-wrapped scallops. I drive downtown just to get them sometimes. It's also a fun place to hang out for happy hour or later on---it's a college crowd.

I love the rib tips at Yazoo's. Also, McCormick's cheeseburger deal at happy hour is a good deal, especially if you usually order drinks anyways. If you're near the Highlands, Sushi Sasa has an affordable lunch special (never been to Mori's... I'll have to add that to the list).

If your a fan of beer I would suggest Wynkoop Brew Pub. 4-5 blocks West of Coors Field. Good Beer selection and decent food at modrate prices. There is also Brix, a bar/restaurant with decent food. I know there are several other places but am drawing a balnk at the moment.

I am assuming that where you are staying on Speer is near the Highlands neighborhood. Both Bang and Trattoria Stella serve very tasty, inexpensive food in that neighborhood.
Nearer Coor's Field, you can get great fish tacos for lunch from Illegal Pete's and good pizza from the Wazee Supper Club. The Market in Larimer Square has a ton of prepared foods that you can pick up for a good lunch out on their patio. Mori, which is right next to Coor's Field, does delicious, inexpensive sushi. You may also want to make a trip to Yazoo's BBQ (which is walking distance from Coor's Field) for some terrific barbeque.
