Help me pic an Anniversary Dinner!

Hello. I am between Daniel and EMP. Of course I am open to any other suggestions. We prefer French, and price does not matter. I will be at Le Bernardin later this week, so that is out. I love Jean Georges, but was just there a few weeks ago for lunch. La Grenuoille is one of our all time favorites, so that also is an option. Location does not matter either because we will be at The Pierre overnight.

Thanks everyone!

Gotham Bar and Grill has it all. A beautifully vaulted space with understated elegance, a superb well-trained,considerate wait staff, and Alfred Portale's exquisite food. Enjoy.

          Hey, Angelina,

If you have never been to EMP, you *must* go! As it happens, we were just there again for dinner (just the two of us) and then for brunch with our daughter and the b.f. What can I say?! We continue to be awed by Chef Daniel Humm's absolutely sensational French-inspired cuisine.

You can, of course, go all out with the 11-course tasting menu along with the wine pairings. We did it for my husband's birthday in January though, of course, the menu now is completely different. However, Chef Humm's signature duck for two is not to be missed! So, have it with either the 3- or 4-course dinner or ask if it can be included in the tasting. (They're very accommodating.) Excellent wine list. Service is both cordial and polished. And the space it gorgeous!

We've been to Daniel, but that was too long ago for me to give you any meaningful advice about it.

Wherever you choose to go, I hope you and your husband have a wonderful evening. Happy Anniversary and Bon Appetit! :-)

I knew I could count on you, RGR!!! (If I could have private messaged you, I would have!! :) )

Well, I think we are sold on EMP. I could only get a 9:30 reservation at Daniel. You have not been wrong on any restaurant we have tried based on your reviews, including NJ, so I will definately post in 2 weeks about our meals!! Thanks again!

Do you have any lunch ideas by 5th and 61st St? We were going to go back to Le Bilboquet, but it has been a while since our last visit here. Any other suggestions?

Have a great day and Merci Beau Coup!!!

              Hey, Angie,

The Central NJ Hound crowd never lets each other down! :-)) I'm surprised seal hasn't posted about his EMP experiences.

Re: lunch. If this for your anniversary weekend or some other time? Day of the week is important since many restaurants do not serve lunch on "le weekend."

Ordinarily, I would recommend you head slightly north to one of our favs, Cafe Boulud, on 76th, b/t 5th & Madison, for Sat. lunch. We were there a couple of weeks ago for lunch on a Friday, and the food, as always, was superb! Unfortunately, during the summer they don't serve lunch on Sat. However, they recently began serving Sunday brunch. So, you might check to see if they're doing that. If so, then it's a definitely "Go!"

We've not been to David Burke & Donatella, on 61st, b/t Park & Lex, but many people say the food's very good, and they serve Sat. & Sun. brunch. Yes, it is the same David Burke of Fromagerie infamy. But I wouldn't let that stop you since, as I said, DB&D generally gets positive notices.

Park Avenue Cafe, where we had an excellent dinner, albeit quite some time ago, recently closed and re-opened as Park Avenue Summer (Autumn, Winter, Spring). They serve Sunday brunch. I have heard zilch about it since the change. You might want to be adventurous and give it a try. It's on 63rd, b/t Park & Lex.

RGR is right the duck for two is a great way to finish off the 4 course tasting menu (which at $22 per course might be one of the best bargains in the city).

                Hey, Chris,

Just to note that the 4-course menu is now $96. Still a huge bargain considering that Daniel is charging exactly that for the 3-course prix-fixe, and Bernardin is charging $107!

What about The River Cafe in Brooklyn? You can't beat the view of the city from the lovely restaurant.
