Dinner tonight: Near Sherbrooke/St Laurent

Hey Mtl. CHers,

I am on business overnight from Toronto with a couple collegues...none of us have a clue where to dine and we would like to go beyond the hotel restaurant.
My hotel is located on Sherbrooke/St.Laurent. Ideally, I would like simply a great restaurant, not crazy expensive, serving straight forward excellent fare. Even better if there are local flavours included.

We would like to walk to wherever is recommended...and please let us know if reservations are a must...

Thanks in Advance!!!

I would second La Porte as your best option if you want something close by. Certainly over Zumaia which I find to be a bit hit or miss. As for the other restaurants on that strip of St. Laurent avoid at all costs, which are ridiculous.

    2. Please avoid Le Globe at all costs! It is quite expensive and not very good. There are a lot of expensive restaurants on that strip of St-Laurent. If you are up for a walk, it is a beautiful day today, you could walk on Sherbrooke street east up to St-Denis and then go north on St-Denis. You have plenty of french bistros..Café Cherrier, L'express, le continental..between Sherbrooke and Rachel street. You would get more "normal" people than the "is everyone looking at me" on St-Laurent street.
