Elvis in Federal Hill

Has anyone checked out this new Mexican place? Is it sit down or carry out?

Do they serve alcohol? Can you do BYOB or is it a regular take-out place?

Pretty sure they don't and you can't. It seems too take-outy inside to want to do BYOB.

The place is decent, I go fairly regularly, but it's not up to par with a place like Tortilleria in Fells Point. The preparation seems traditional and at least somewhat authentic, and that's what I like about the place. They also have very good refried beans, and I like their salsa. I've had the most luck with things like the carne asada. The meat quality is pretty (very!) low, that's the most glaring flaw, it's all pretty dry and tough.

A month ago, and I checked with the woman at the counter first, but with another couple I had no problem bringing in a 6 pack and bottle of wine to Elvis. Bring your own glasses unless you prefer your wine out of a styrofoam cup (my camping ones work great!)

This might require another thread or already be one, but I loooove me some Elvis, we get carry out from there more than anywhere, however one of the few things I miss living south of here in Pasadena is Plaza Girabaldi...is there any place for good sit-down Mexican here in Fed Hill? If not where's best north of the harbor (downtown/H. East/Fells/Canton)?

There's not any in Fed. Hill. We go to Blue Agave once in a while for nachos, but never had anything else. There's supposedly a new upscale Mexican place going in where Billabong is now.

In the city my go-to for Mexican is Carolina's Tex Mex in Fells Point. It's actually not Tex Mex, but it's very good.

I understand the original Blue Agave guy (now of RubBBQ) is opening a Mexican place in Silo Point in the fall.

If you're a Plaza Garibaldi fan, continue a few miles south on Route 2 into Brooklyn Park and dine at El Salto.

El Salto is excellent comfort food that is very reasonably priced.

I always drive by to get something in town, but next time we'll have to stop!

El Salto is definitely worth a stop. Get the veggie quesedilla, skip the margaritas and go for a beer.

Love Elvis. It's spotlessly clean, limited menu of tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas and pupasas. The chicken is delicious. They have quite a few tables, but you order at the counter like a takeout place.

Yum! What are the prices like? Is it real Mexican or Tex Mex?

Given that they serve pupasas, it's actually El Salvadoran Mexican. Definitely not Tex Mex. Prices are like $6 or 7 for a platter of anything which includes tasty and creamy refried beans and rice.

Here's one thing I love about the place -- like most Mexican places, if you eat there, they bring you chips and salsa before the meal. But they've been known to bring it to me while I was waiting for takeout. The salsa is sadly pretty boring, but the chips are good.

I'd support this place just because they're so nice. Fortunately, the food is good.

Light and Poultney, a block north of Cross Street Market.

Calling them Elvis is misleading -- the Elvis sign is small and nearly invisible from above the door. Look for the painted window that reads "Tacos Burritos Pupasas." I think I'm headed there for dinner tonight.
