12 People (some with issues) for Birthday Dinner

foodluvngal Jul 17, 2007 05:41 AM

Here's the thing. I'm looking for someplace, not too pricey, for my mom's birthday. She wants either Sushi, Steak or Lobster, but being hard of hearing, I need someplace quiet, or with a nice separate room. One of the guests will only eat Chicken, as plain as possible. Ideally, something in the Chelsea, Flatiron, East or West Village area, but will consider elsewhere. It's a Wednesday night, around 7ish, so I'm not anticipating having too much trouble with availability. We considered El Quijote, but it's been so lousy lately; Centro Vasco will be too noisy and hasn't a private room. I've got the Sushi place covered, if we decide to go that route, but would love any suggestions for alternatives. Thanks.

I think you may have luck at The Bridge Cafe. It's not in any of the areas that you'd requested, but it will please all of the finnicky eaters. While I'd only been there once, I was very impressed with my steak frite, and my uncle ordered the rib eye (which was the biggest piece of meat I've seen in my life).
The Bridge Cafe doesn't get too much press and you don't hear too many things about it (or atleast I hadn't), but I really enjoyed my meal and the very historic restaurant.

Take a look at Giorgio's of Gramercy (www.giorgiosofgramercy.com). They will have chicken and steak and the place should be quiet for your group.

      Giorgio's of Gramercy
27 East 21st Street, New York, NY 10010

Too bad you seem limited to that area because Compass at 69th bet. Amsterdam & West End would fit the bill nicely.
