Stirid Up: Jamaican in Etobicoke

romanruin Jul 16, 2007 01:17 PM

OK I had to try it - its called Stirid Up and its a Jamaican take-out joint on the food wasteland on Bloor between Islington and Royal York.
Not bad at all. Had the jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas. $8 medium had lots of chicken, nice jerk spicing (mild in that mid-Etobicoke way), great rice, made fresh to order. Will try a few more things on their limited menu. Anything that keeps me from having to drive to Willy's at Weston/Finch gets the benefit of the doubt.

Thanks for the run down, I was planning on giving it a try next week.

Does either of those places have jerk pork? Most of the Jamaican places around there don't.

        Stirid Up no; Willy's yes.
Question: whats so difficult about pork that you don't see it jerked as often as chicken?

For one thing, it takes longer than chicken to cook. Also, there are many jerk places that omit pork to cater to Muslims.
