Hoopers Crab House in OC - Stay Away!
I had what were the worst crabs in my 44 years of existence at Hoopers Crab House friday afternoon the 13th. A friend and I stopped in to have crabs on the water and all that were available were the AYCE. Knowing that that means small crabs we decided it was better then nothing and since the menu said they were served "spicy hot", why not. Not only were they all paper shells several smelled so strongly of ammonia it was scary, 3 of them that I had, had rancid and I mean rancid meat, I had to spit it out. The waiter, who was very nice said to just "not eat the bad ones" and he would bring more which turned out to be more of the same. The ones that hadn't turned usually had meat the consistancy of mashed potatos. It was all very gross. I just feel sorry for people who go there and have never had crabs before and think "thats it?" And more importantly eat a bad crab and get sick from it.
Oh and served "spicy hot"? Maybe the week before when they were actually cooked, they were all lukewarm if that...

We just ate there last night. I ordered he crab cake dinner. They were the worst crab cakes I ever had. I mentioned to my waitress that they didn't even taste like crab meat and I ate a few hunks and tasted like fish. She said their crab cakes come prepackaged. HUH!?? They should pack their own! $27.99 ! We will never go back.
