Cuban Food in Toronto

There was this cuban food stall at the nathan phillips farmers market last summer and the summer before last, but it's missing this year. They served up really tasty cuban pork sandwiches - slightly greasy roasted (?) pork that was so tender it fell apart into threads, on toasted buns with a vinegary onion and tomato salad, and mashed potatoes shaped into pucks and toasted till crisp on a hot plate. Just thinking about it is making me hungry! Anyone know the name of the restaurant that put up the stall, or where I could go for something similar?

  1. I'm not certain whether it was them, but it sounds like a place I saw during the recent outdoor art show at Nathan Phillips. I wasn't hungry at the time, so this pangolin didn't try them.

    1. They're at the farmer's market at Metro Hall on Thursdays. La Fiestra or something like that. Have them add the "hot sauce", it's really tasty. Not hot, just very flavourful.

Thanks fickle! I guess I know what I'm going to be doing all thursday...

I'm not sure that they're Cuban though. . . are they from somewhere in Central America? I seem to recall seeing a sign mentioning something to that effect when I tried their yummy sandwiches at Metro Hall the other week. . .

Let's all check on Thursday and report back!

Would also like to know if the "pucks" are good. I was hesitant to try them. . .

Really? I always thought they were cuban - but I could be mistaken (and probably am)

I totally agree we should all go "investigate" on thursday! If it's the same stall I'm thinking about, the potato pucks are excellent. Not overly flavourful on their own, but a good starchy carb balance for the oily pork and the tart salad.

I was actually there on a Wednesday and had their "complete" meal with the roast pork, potato omelette, rice, and salad.... very very good! extremely satisfying, and that "hot" sauce on everythign was really good.
They were also selling the sandwiches, chicken kebabs, and steak, but the roast pork was a clear winner...
Also saw a back bacon sandwich stand which looked ok...

So wait, are they open on wednesdays or thursdays? And where? I'm confused!

Also thanks for the reco Ixcardoza. Where is this place?

Just right in Nathan Philips Square, a few metres past the large pool of water... you can't miss it!
Not sure when its open, but I was there on a Wednesday when it was there...

They're at Nathan Phillips Square on Wednesdays and Metro Hall on Thursdays.

Thanks fickle - I unfortunately missed them today but I'm very hopeful for tomorrow!

I finally caught them at Metro Hall yesterday! To clarify, they're both there and at Nathan Phillip's Square on thursdays, and just the latter on wednesdays. Also, I need to change the title of this post because they're apparently from Equador! Oops!

Besides that, fantastic food as usual. Thanks to everyone who led me back to them.
