Recommendations for Few Tables/Small Space/Intimate

Henry_Mein Jul 15, 2007 09:29 PM

I'm new to Manhattan, staying in Chelsea. I'd like to find places that feel very personal / intimate. Anyone have recommendations for their favorite 10-20 table / cozy and intimate places.

you have to try tia pol! they have super yummy tapas, and the space is very cozy. it's a narrow brick-walled restaurant with high dark wood tables lined with benches or high-backed stools. the sangria is great, and i've loved everything on the menu that i've tried. i used to live around there, and went to tia pol on a regular basis. it's on 10th avenue between 22nd and 23rd.

for pretty good and cheap italian around there, pepe giallo is also an intimate space - on 10th avenue between 23rd and 24th.

      in west village:
      little owl
      blue ribbon bakery (upstairs)
those places come to mind. there are tons of cozy spaces in west village, though. have fun exploring!

Lavagna in the east village for delicious Italian cuisine with very cozy & intimate feel. Great date spot!

Lavagna would be perfect, but I went on a Saturday night and it was slammed.

Gascogne, on 8th Av., b/t 17th & 18th Sts., serves excellent French bistro cuisine. I'm not sure how many tables there are, but the interior space is small, cozy and charming. There is also a lovely back garden.
