Fiddlin' Pig on Tunnel Road

Today my husband and I decided to try the fiddlin' pig. Not being blue grass fans we opted for Saturday afternoon before music and entertainment hour. Honestly, I thought the menu was a little pricey considering there was no entertainment.

We started with the deviled eggs because the ones at Luellas are awesome. I didn't like these at all; however, they come with fried pickles. The fried pickles were a surprising treat.

Well, we are still in search of good BBQ in WNC. Actually the sliced brisket wasn't too bad. I had a sandwich platter with onion rings and baked beans. The onion rings had no flavor whatsoever. The baked beans were very sweet. I took the meat off the sandwich and ate it with a mixture of sauces as I didn't really care for any of them. The hushpuppies were small round marbles that could have easily bounced off the wall.

My husband had the pulled pork sandwich. It was okay. The meat was tender but he said my brisket was better. He had fries and slaw. Both were average at best. The slaw was very bland. It was improved by adding the vinegar sauce.

I don't think I'll spend the money to go back. With tip $32 for two people for lunch.

  1. The folks that do the BBQ at Shindig are opening a place in Swannanoa (where the seafood market was). If they can replicate what they serve at Shindig it will be the best around. That includes 12 Bones.

I can't wait. That's a ways to drive from Candler, but if it's good we will do the drive for good BBQ. We tried 12 Bones and really weren't that impressed there either. Maybe we went on an off day, but my ribs were actually dry and tasted like leather.

I can't wait for the new place in Swannanoa to open as I live in Black Mountain...a BBQ place that is pretty good is Perry's BBQ in Black Mountain, they have yummy sides and good sauce ( I only eat the pulled chicken which is good with "smokey sauce") so I cannot comment on the meat, ribs or brisket but my hubby likes them!
PS its not much to look at but don;t let that scare you, I am pretty snobby about food and I eat there!

Did that BBQ place ever open in Swannanoa?

Yes. It's called Okie Dokie Smokehouse on Hwy 70 in the same building that previously was a fish market. I haven't eaten there so I can't comment but I've heard good things.

I am, however, a huge fan of 12 Bones, so perhaps I'm not the best judge.
