Gyu-Kaku Happy Hour

WHills Jul 13, 2007 01:37 PM

I haven't been to Gochi for a while since the new Gyu-Kaku opened up in Topanga Mall, and it is quickly turning into one of my favorite restaurants.

So, they have this really good happy hour going on. I think each location has a different happy hour special, and the special changes each month. The specials runs Monday thru Thursday from 4 to 7 at the Topanga Mall location and from 9 to closing. They have 50% different BBQ items for both half and full orders (pork sausage, tender bistro beef, shabu beef, flat iron beef, and chicken). All pint beers are $2 and cocktails are $5. It's really a great deal.

For two, we had: Gyu-Kaku Best II Dinner (gyu-kaku salad, miso soup, edaname, rice, flat iron beef and kalbi beef). One order of beef, one full order of tender bistro beef (it's pretty big), and one order of sausage. Price was around $43 for two. Not a big deal at all.

Also, it doesn't look like the Topanga location has any price minimim to order the happy hour special, although there is a limit that each person can only order 1 BBQ item. So, you could go and order a beer and a full order of beef and rice and get out of there for under $15.

Pretty good deal! Plus, you don't smell like the place at all when you leave. (Big plus).

Wow, half orders at Gyu kaku must be teeensy weeeeensy, since the "full" orders are about the size of a coffee saucer.

Actually, it appears from the menu that Topanga location is one of the few stores with both a half and full order. From the pricing, my guess is the full order at most of the other stores equals the half order at the Topanga location. The full orders of beef is 9 ounces, which was quite a bit of beef.

To give you an idea, the full orders of beef are 9 ounces. You can check the menu for the price, but our full order of bistro beef turned out to be $7.

For sausages, you can get 6 for $3.50 during Happy Hour.

I've been to the one in Huntington Beach and they've done away with the limit to the happy hour offerings. I guess all the menu offerings vary from place to place.
