recommendations in Midtown

one of my colleagues and I are going to be in manhattan at the end of the month for work, staying at the W in midtown. can you give us recommendations for good restaurants semi-close by? I've done a search already on the board and Ethos & Turkish Kitchen sounded great (especially because there's no turkish food in LA where I'm coming from). Neither of us are picky about types of food -- we like all types -- but since she's coming from San Francisco with good italian & chinese food and I'm coming from LA with good japanese and thai food, I'd prefer something different.
TIA!

Ethos is a good pic for Greek. I prefer Ali Baba to Turkish Kitchen for Turkish food in the area.

        Hey, tigercactus,

Regulars on this board know that Turkish Kitchen is my favorite for that type of cuisine. It's on 3rd Av., b/t 27th & 28th Sts., which is the Murray Hill area, not midtown.

TK should not be confused with a restaurant in midtown called Turkish Cuisine. (It's on 9th Av., b/t 44th & 45th Sts.) The food's o.k., but Turkish Kitchen is far superior. So, it's worth making the short trip there.

Ethos also happens to be our favorite Greek restaurant. It, too, is in Murray Hill, on 3rd, b/t 33rd & 34th Sts.

There are several Greek restaurants in the midtown area. Of those, I like Uncle Nick's, on 9th Av., b/t 50th & 51st Sts.

You might want to consider going to Keens Steakhouse, which has been in its 36th St. location, b/t 5th & 6th Avs., since 1885. In addition to excellent food (Keens' signature is the mutton chop) and prompt service, there's unmatchable old NY ambiance -- walls filled with memorabilia and rows of old clay smoking pipes suspended from all the ceilings.

You are not too far from the area known as "Little Korea." There are many restaurants to choose from. One I like is Kang Suh, on the corner of B'way & 32nd St. They do an excellent Korean barbecue, very different from American-style bbq.

Hope you and your colleague have a pleasant stay in NYC and Bon Appetit!
