We are celebrating two birthdays and I was wondering where I could buy a delicious cake for 6 persons. I have to bring it to my friends' place, which is 90 min from here (probably more today, because of the traffic), so ice cream cakes are excluded. Is there anything good at Pain Doré that may fit my needs? I need a place either downtown, plateau or in the eastern part of the island.

TIA!

Cocoa Locale (4807 av. du Parc, 514 271-7162) has dense, richly frosted and charmingly decorated (mainly edible flowers) Bundt-style cakes in classic and unusual flavours (lemon and olive oil; chocolate chai; key lime; raspberry rose; red velvet; etc.). They travel well and are always popular; I took a big key lime cake to a baby shower recently, put it on the table without fanfare and it was gone (in about ten minutes) before all the other desserts. Go before noon for the biggest selection.

I've been quite impressed with cakes we've gotten from Saveurs Du Plateau. They were delicious and very skilfully made in classic French style. I don't remember too many specifics, but I do remember that I loved them, and I'm very picky about cakes.

We got a layered vanilla ganache with raspberry filling and white chocolate frosting for mothers' day, and it was dreamy!

The other one we had was a layered mousse cake (there definitely was a creme brulée mousse in there, as well as chocolate) covered in chocolate and sprinkled with gold leaf. We drove from montreal to Sherbrooke with this one (in September) and it stood up just fine and was a big hit.

They really are the best I've had in town.

You can go in advance and order one from their binder, or just go early in the day to make sure there's still some selection.

The above should be good, though I can't say from personal experience. I can speak for Fous Desserts, as I ordered three cakes from there for a friend's leaving-town party. It was fairly expensive (as cake for 25 would be), but absolutely delicious. Similar in concept to the cakes at Saveurs du Plateau, I believe.
