Viceroy Hotel "Taste of Tuesdays"?

Has anyone tried The Viceroy's "Taste of Tuesday" menu?

It sounds delicious, but I'm hoping for some first hand reviews. Monday-Tuesday next week is "mini-vacation" with my high school gal pals. Monday is San Diego (getting recs on the CA board) and Tuesday is LA: we're doing a group sewing lesson, then afternoon tea (haven't decided, but have lots of places in mind).

Since we're having tea late in the afternoon, we probably won't be too hungry and thought The Viceroy's menu of $5 small plates, poolside with cocktails, would be perfect. IF it's tasty, that is!

It will be a great spot for you and your pals to enjoy yourselves, but I've never had even a bite of tasty food there.

I have not had the Tuesday menu but threw a b'day party there in March and the food was very very good. The chef was very interested in knowing if we enjoyed it and even sent out another dish of the ahi tuna after we raved about it. I have heard many people complain about the food at WHIST and am not sure if same chef is responsible for all the food the hotel produces. I can just say that my three or four experiences there have been very enjoyable.

Yes, Chef Warren oversees all the food. I've always had great experiences there, great food.

I want to love this place because the setting is so beautiful, but here's PlatypusJ's review of our meal a couple of weekends ago.

Cold pork belly? :( At least they were very nice about sending out a new one. On the positive side, Whist had a booth at Taste of the Nation where they were serving bites of the elk tenderloin which I think is on the Taste of Tuesdays menu and it was great.

Yes I remember this review. I felt badly for you! I do not eat meat, just ahi tuna (rarely) and shellfish so perhaps I have avoided some of the culinary disasters-not much of a theory I know.

Maybe we were just there on an off night? It was a Friday night, so that could have factored in as well. At the end of the day, the service and setting were lovely so the experience was still pleasant (plus, I had the great company of a fellow chowhound!:)).
