I'm looking to buy a pricey gift certificate at a "special occasions" type place. One of the eaters is vegetarian, so it has to have some non-meat options on the menu. After some research, it seems like Terrene, An American Place and Niche. Any thoughts on these three or can you suggest another place?

The couple is young, hip and appreciate fresh ingredients exectued at the highest level.

Thanks in advance!

  1. This is from a native St. Louisan (now I live in NYC). I think Sidney Street Cafe is great for a gift. Not sure how they are for veggies. Also, Jimmy's Cafe on the Park is wonderful. Ask Derek, the chef, to do something special (and vegetarian) for you (he's a friendly friend of mine). Trattoria Marsala is also worth checking out.

    1. I think Terrene would definitely fit the bill. Niche also is good although I prefer Terrene. The chef just left, however, so I don't know if it will drastically change or not. You might consider a gift certificate from saucemagazine.com. They're good at a number of places!

      1. I like all the places suggested so far, but nothing says "wedding present" like An American Place. The room and its ambiance exude an elegance that we associate with weddings. And the menu will tell your friends exactly where their food comes from. Plus the Rennaissance Hotel has a bar, right next to An American Place, that is straight out of the early 20th Century - I suggest your friends have a pre-dinner drink there.
