Giorgio's of Gramercy is a great date spot.
Lucy Latin kitchen would also be good for a first date

Casa Mono. The Tavern Room at Gramercy Tavern is also nice (haven't been to the main dining room). Both of these restaurants you'll have to wait for. If you're not interested in doing that, Giorgio's of Gramercy is a nice date place.

          Rodeo was DOH'ed.
If you like vegetarian Indian food, Vatan on third around 28th/29th is very romantic, unique, and has a great pirx fixe menu.
Blue Smoke is fun for upscale BBQ, and the Bread Bar at Tabla is also excellent for Indian fusion.

          Here's a few to think about: Mexico Lindo (26th & 2nd); Ole (25th & Second -- they also have a tapas bar next door); Molly's (a great pub -- more casual; 3rd between 22nd & 23rd); Mumbles (3rd & 17th); Rodeo (3rd & 27th - might be too loud, but there is great live music there, too).

I guess it depends on the girl you're taking out, but I don't know if they'd be too impressed with Rodeo - I've only passed by but it looks like a rowdy fratboy bar. I think Molly's is charming, but maybe not for a first date.

If you want to really impress her, I'd second Gramercy Tavern and add Veritas. Though if you're supposed to go even higher for the second and third dates, I don't know if that leaves you many options :)

I wouldn't be too impressed with Mumbles or Rodeo. More confused and disappointed. Gramercy Tavern and Veritas are great, as is Craft.

There is absolutely nothing about Mexico Lindo in either the food or ambiance categories that would impress anyone, let alone a first date. And while I like the burgers at Molly's, a place to impress it definitely is not!
