need rec for large special occasion dinner in SGV

Hi there,

I'm planning a retirement dinner for my dad and need recommendations for restaurants in the San Gabriel Valley area that could accommodate a party of 16. A private room would be great, but isn't absolutely necessary. With the intended audience something on the American traditional side or maybe Italian is probably best-- a Chinese banquet would be great for me but take way too much explaining to everyone else. :) I'd like to keep the cost to about $50 per person. Something nice, but not too stuffy.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

-Scott

I posted this at our SGV local blog and got some interesting suggestions here:

I believe one of the backrooms at Smitty's could be reserved and accommodate a party of 16.

Firefly Bistro in South Pasadena has good food and a nice ambiance.

A friend had a large birthday party there recently. They provide very attentive service. Check out their website: http://www.eatatfirefly.com/

Parkway Grill or Arroyo Chophouse (if steak is preferred), both in Pasadena.
