First trip to Michigan

vickie Jul 10, 2007 01:00 PM

I am meeting a friend in Jackson and we will be traveling to Traverse City. Our route is to go north on 127. We figure we will be a little north of Mt. Pleasant around lunch time. Any recomendations for lunch in that area would be greatly apprecitated. We are open to any kind of cuisine.
Thank you

I could be wrong, but I think that you'd be better off just trucking on through to TC and eating there. I'm sure that you could get a lot of recs for TC. I suppose that it's possible that there is a breakfast anytime place in Mt. Pleasant. It is, after all, a college town. Who knows? Maybe you'll find the hidden gem out there in the heart of the Lower Peninsula.

I agree, do a straight through drive and enjoy lunch on a lake or in TC. The drive is actually pretty easy, 41/2 hours or so. Lunch always tastes better on a beach!

The town of Clare is a few miles north of Mt Pleasant. I've stopped there a few times on trips up north and can recommend the East 5th Street diner, 406 E 5th St. It's a few blocks from the downtown area. Haven't been since last summer, so you should call to check hours & make sure they're still there 989 386 9704. Breakfast/lunch only, I believe.

If you head west a bit over to Barryton, on State Route 66, there's a diner called Williams Cafe which has terrific baked goods, so if you get a sandwich or hamburger it's on fresh homemade bread or a homemade bun. I haven't been there in about 3 years, but it used to be very good.
