Spending a weekend in Port Hope. Looking for any suggestions for good food. Breakfast/lunch/dinner or even a place with good takeout for a picnic. Thanks!

Lunch or dinner the best pizza in southern ontario is Jim's Pizza on walton by the river. Small eat in area, worth the pizza. They have little tables on the side walk great for a small pizza for lunch, or a picnic.

I don't think you'll do much better in Port Hope than Zest, either on the pleasant back patio or the light and airy main resto itself. Solid and consistent over the years. Most dishes, ever-sensitive to the seasons, come with an interesting and imaginative twist. Service always good and accomplished. Reasonable wine prices, especially by the glass. Fairly priced overall.

For just a drink, though, there's most fun to be had across the street, at the Beamish House. A lively, idiosyncratic crowd sparring at the bar. Good beer selection (good for Port Hope, I mean). The food there, though, isn't up to much - unless you're satisfied with very basic platters.

I had lunch at zest today and can report that it is good.
We ordered the lamb burger special which came with hand cut fries.
Bill with two pints and a brownie with pumpkin ice cream for desert came to approx. $65
Super nice back patio-I would go again if I were ever in port hope.

Love, love, love Zest. That it's in picture perfect Port Hope only makes it better.

Have never been to Zest, but it's owned by a top food stylist Julie Aldis - sounds like it could be just the thing you are looking for. Please report back if you go. Here is a link to some Port Hope highlights...
