Big Night at Grotto

If you're interested, the next one is July 26.

I really enjoyed the one I attended.

I've done it a couple of times, and it is superb (and a bargain). It's five courses that feels like twelve (the risotto course is actually three risotti, for example), so you really have to pace yourself, or you'll have no room by the time the suckling pig is served. The staff and a few guests even dress in period garb.

I reviewed the movie Ratatouille in The Dig last week, and mentioned the movie Big Night as one of my two favorite food movies (the other being Tampopo). I originally included a plug for Grotto's recreation of the Big Night dinner in that piece, but ultimately had to cut it out for length.

You might want to check out Babette's Feast if you haven't already. Delicious movie.

Yes, quite enjoyed that one. It's no "301/302", but it's very good.

Everyone should go to Big Night at least once. It's a wild time.

Totally agree. We loved it, but you need to take smaller portions if you want to partake of all the courses. I recommend going lightly on the usual 3 risottos that come out early on.
