Scottsdale recs for big group w/ kids?
I'll be in Scottsdale later this year with a group of friends, all with kids in the toddler/pre-school range. Any suggestions for good places to eat, where we can get a table for 10 (including the kids) and where they will not mind a little potential for food dropped on the floor? "Kid-friendly" food (aka pizza and chicken fingers) is not necessary, so long as the establishment itself is kid-friendly. Thanks for any suggestions!
Sorry -- should have been more specific. I think we will be a few miles east of Kierland Commons, if that helps. I guess we're willing to travel depending on how good the food is! I'd particularly like some good Mexican food (with a mariachi band a plus), but all types of suggestions are welcome.
I think I have a few good ideas. Understanding your group, here is what I recommend.
Please note these are all recommended for location, kid-friendliness and overall mass appeal in experience and food. If you want more upscale/authentic Mexican places we can offer that up too, but for your query, hope this helps. Enjoy Scottsdale!
Garduno's - Mexican food, noisy enough and casual enough for kids and I have been there when there was live music
Los Olivos - a locally-owned restaurant, the north location is slightly smaller and less charming, but still will provide the Mexican food experience you want and be ok for kids and a large group.
On the Border - solid Mexican fare in a family-friendly environment. Try the fajitas.
Depending on exactly where you are staying, one or all may be close by.

I was going to reccomend Los Olivos. It's kid friendly, dependable food, and close to Kierland. I prefer the original one in Old Town Scottsdale because the building is so funky, but it's not as close. I have kids, so I know that sometimes you have the best of intentions on seeking out the best of the best, but whatever is closest when you have little grumbly tummies in the back seat often wins out.
Mexican in Scottsdale, especially North Scottsdale and nearby areas of Phoenix such as Kierland, is generally pretty gringoized. HCK's recommendations are probably about the best in the immediate area. To get something more authentic will require a longer drive into the heart of Phoenix.
In terms of not Mexican, but definitely kid-friendly, let me recommend Sabuddy and Pita Jungle, two Middle Eastern / Mediterranean restaurants a few miles south at Scottsdale and Shea. Neither has the stereotypical kid's menu, but both serve kid-friendly foods such as falafel and pita sandwiches, and both are family dining destinations.
