David Greggory in DC is indeed closing...

inbox_blues Jul 9, 2007 09:02 AM

FYI,

I just called DG, and they confirmed closing beginning in August 2007 to change their restaurant and re-decorate. They will open shortly after August and no longer be called David Greggory. It says to check the website, but at the moment, there is little information:

Well looks like I should probably check it out this week or next before it closes down and changes menus. I've heard good things about DG just have never made it to the restaurant (even though I recently moved a few blocks down).

Anyone have a particular item that is a must try on a one time first/last visit? :)

I once had the "Applewood Bacon, Arugula, and Tomato Sandwich on Sourdough with Potato Salad" --- Yumm!

I LOVE that sandwich - best BLT I've had in a long time. I'm so bummed they are closing because they have a bacon happy hour that I haven't had a chance to go to!

My favorites on the DG menu:

Starters: Iceberg Wedge Salad and Flatbread/Pizza with 3 cheeses and leeks
Entrees: Crabcakes and Scallops. Last time we were there they also had a portobello mushroom milenase which was excellent but can't remember if this was a special or just something I had never tried before.
Dessert: Greek S'mores (enough for 2 to share): Phyllo Dough with fudgy warm chocolate cake and marshmallow fluff inside. MMM. Just went last week but might need to go once more before they close to enjoy this. Oh, and I did recommend to the manager that they keep this on the menu when they switch--he said that it's the most popular dessert (but didn't promise it was staying).

The portobello milanase is on their menu online. I thought that looked interesting...good to hear!

The other thing I forgot to mention is that many of their entrees are considered "half-ables", so you can order half-portions of them and get even more of a variety.

Wow their Happy Hour menu is good until 9pm!! That's pretty late...might need to check that out as well. Looks good for some $5 snacks!

It is really good, I had the scallops last time I went, I forget what appetizer I had. I got a half portion of my dinner entree and an appetizer. I would recommend doing that. They have some great mixed drinks too.

You know, I went there once, and I was very excited based on all I'd heard.... and then was totally disappointed by the food. So, I guess I actually won't miss it.
