Vegetarian recommendations?

baby blued Jul 8, 2007 08:43 PM

I'm traveling to NYC next month with my vegetarian husband and carnivorous brother. Any ideas for vegetarian restaurants a meat eater would also enjoy, or non-vegetarian restaurants with a good varitey of vegetarian selections? I'm looking for lunch and dinner options, both casual and a bit upscale. We are staying in Times Square, but are willing to venture anywhere in the city for good food. Thanks!

Consider Indian food. Saravanaas gets the most recommendations here for South Indian vegetarian (I haven't had the pleasure yet), and Devi gets the most recommendations for an Indian restaurant that offers both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food (I haven't been there, either, but did go to Amma 3 times when Suvir Saran and Hemant Mathur were there, and it was fantastic!).

Republic in Union Square is a thai/fusion place and I eat there with a vegetarian friend all the time. They focus on noodle and rice dishes and they have a lot of choices for vegetarians.

My son and I are big time meat eaters, but we very much enjoyed the all vegetarian dinner at Vatans...It is Indian vegetarian, no ordering, they just bring you many, many different dishes throughout your meal...We kicked our shoes off, and sat on big pillows, and had a blast, plus the food was interesting and delicious...Absolutely must make reservations though...

I'd definitely consider Gobo. If you do a search, you'll see that it's a veg restaurant that meat eaters enjoy. If you're into South Indian food, I second Saravanaas.
